Wills and Estate Planningwills & estate plans

In a story January 16, 2010, the National Post reported that: "When RBC did an independant survey... it found that 54% of Canadians did not have a Will."

Do you have a Will?

In British Columbia, whatever the value of your assets, you have the right to decide how your assets will be distributed and who will look after that distribution. Perhaps you have certain items you would like to pass along to specific people. A Will gives you the ability to set this out.

If you have minor children, your Will allows you to state your preference of who will be asked to look after them (their Guardian) and provide for their care.

Without a valid Will, these very important decisions will be made by the government. The results of these decisions may not be a desirable outcome for your family’s particular needs and quite possibly not the results you intend.

It takes very little time to properly plan your Estate and set out your wishes in a manner that meets legal requirements and makes it more likely that your desired outcome will actually result.

This section of our website seeks to set out basic information on Wills that you should be aware of, as well provide a means for you to ask questions about Wills in British Columbia. Read on...
